Italia-America Friendship Festival in Vicenza: Where Italian-American Culture and Global Networking Converge

Vicenza, September 12–14, 2025 – The elegant city of Vicenza, nestled in the heart of northern Italy, is preparing to host the inaugural Italia‑America Friendship Festival, a landmark event celebrating 70 years of cultural, diplomatic, and economic relations between Italy and the United States.
From September 12 to 14, Vicenza will transform into a vibrant international stage, featuring music, cinema, history, food, architecture, and sports, designed to bring together communities from both sides of the Atlantic. The festival is organized by the City of Vicenza, in collaboration with the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF), the U.S. Consulate General in Milan, and multiple cultural and civic partners.
A Three-Day Celebration of Shared Heritage
The festival unfolds across Vicenza’s architectural jewels—Basilica Palladiana, Teatro Comunale, and Palazzo Chiericati—serving as both symbolic and practical venues for celebration. The goal is to highlight the deep links between Vicenza and the U.S., forged through migration, military presence, shared cultural heritage, and economic collaboration.
The main program includes:
Historical panels on Italian emigration to America and how Vicentini have shaped American life.
Cultural events ranging from music performances to culinary tastings blending Italian and American traditions.
Workshops and talks focused on topics like Palladian architecture's impact on Washington D.C. and New York, and the evolution of Italian-American identity.
Sports initiatives, such as friendly tournaments and Olympic-themed events, symbolizing mutual values of wellness, unity, and competition.
A dedicated “Food Village”, where Italian and American chefs will offer a sensory fusion of both culinary heritages.
A Season of Events Leading to the Main Festival
What makes this celebration even more unique is its extended timeline. Beginning May 20, 2025, a calendar of pre-festival events will warm up the city’s cultural climate. These include:
TULSA Ballet’s Made in America performance at Teatro Comunale (May 16).
Film screenings like La Santa di Brooklyn and Cries from the Cotton Field, followed by public discussions.
Talks and roundtables on branding, migration, activism, and the American Dream, led by diplomats, scholars, and local stakeholders.
Book presentations, such as 70 Years of Vicentini nel Mondo, documenting the stories of Italians who left home for America.
This approach reinforces Vicenza’s intention to act not just as host but as active narrator of a shared transatlantic story.
Why Vicenza?
Vicenza is home to one of Europe’s largest American communities, with over 13,000 U.S. citizens residing in the area due to the long-standing military base. Architecturally, it has directly influenced the United States: Palladian design principles shaped government buildings like the U.S. Capitol and the White House. In 2010, the U.S. Congress even honored Andrea Palladio as the "father of American architecture."
Furthermore, Vicenza thrives in manufacturing and export sectors, many of which maintain trade ties with the U.S., making this not just a cultural event but a strategic platform for dialogue and business networking.
